BC Community Alliance acknowledges the contributions of Markiel Simpson and wishes him success in what’s next.
It is with mixed emotions that the BC Community Alliance bids farewell to Markiel Simpson, an integral member of our Steering Committee since February 2020!
Markiel joined BC Community Alliance after expressing his desire to see much needed change to BC’s K-12 curriculum through the adoption of Black Canadian History. Markiel was instrumental in bringing together members of the local Black community including parents, activists, educators, and other prominent members to discuss this important initiative. There was a shared consensus amongst the group that such a curriculum was needed in addition to implementing other anti-racism initiatives.
Markiel’s passion for the cause has been evident throughout his time with BCCA and he continually demonstrated an unwavering courage while advocating for change in our province’s public school system. We have no doubt that Markiel possesses a strong affinity for justice, equity, and advocating for the common good of all community members. These are just a few of the many qualities and values that Markiel leads with and will continue to do as he embarks on his new journey entering the political arena. BC Community Alliance is grateful for the impact Markiel has made through his work with BCCA and wishes him well on this new pursuit!
