BC Community Alliance Co-Founder Brian Seremba Honored with the King’s Coronation Medal for Outstanding Community Service

March 2025 | BC Community Alliance News

At BC Community Alliance (BCCA), we believe in the power of community leadership, advocacy, and action to create meaningful change. Today, we are thrilled to celebrate a monumental achievement as our Co-Founder, Brian Seremba, is awarded the King’s Coronation Medal for his outstanding service to the community.

A Well-Deserved Recognition for Transformational Work

The King’s Coronation Medal is awarded to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional contributions to society, advocacy, and public service. Brian’s leadership at BCCA and beyond has paved the way for Black youth empowerment, anti-racism policy advocacy, and groundbreaking initiatives that continue to uplift communities across British Columbia.

This honor is a testament to the years of work Brian has dedicated to ensuring equity, opportunity, and justice for underrepresented groups. His leadership in securing funding, advocating for systemic change, and fostering community partnerships has made an undeniable impact in BC and beyond.

Leading Initiatives That Drive Systemic Change

Brian Seremba’s work through BCCA and BCCA Advisory has played a critical role in shaping some of the most impactful youth, community, and policy-driven initiatives in recent years. Some of his key contributions include:

🔹 BC Racism Tracker & Anti-Racism Policy Advocacy

Under Brian’s leadership, BCCA launched the BC Racism Tracker, a vital tool that has collected real-time data on racism in British Columbia, providing critical insights that have influenced the introduction of key policies such as the Anti-Racism Data Legislation (2022) and the Anti-Racism Act (2024).

🔹 Safe School Hub – A Digital Resource for Youth Empowerment

Recognizing the need for safe, accessible, and educational resources for Black youth and families, Brian played a pivotal role in developing Safe School Hub, a first-of-its-kind digital platform that integrates:
BC Racism Tracker and Data-Mapping Tool
Anti-Racism Resources and Empowerment Toolkit
Family Services Program

As we prepare for the beta launch of Safe School Hub, this award serves as a powerful recognition of its necessity and impact.

🔹 Support for Student Learning Program (SSLP)

Brian’s work in education has helped hundreds of Black students access mentorship, funding, and leadership training. Through SSLP, students have been able to:
✅ Receive Group coaching to develop their career and leadership skills.
✅ Compete in the SSLP Pitch Competition, a program that provides funding, scholarships, and business mentorship.
✅ Access the BCCA Laptop Loan Program, ensuring that no student is left behind due to financial barriers.

BCCA’s Continued Mission & Looking Ahead

This award is not just about Brian—it is about the collective work of BCCA, our partners, volunteers, and the communities we serve. It serves as a milestone in our journey toward creating a more equitable, inclusive, and empowered society.

We extend our deepest gratitude to our partners, including:

🏆 Vancity Foundation, a long-term partner who has been supporting us since inception. We are grateful for providing us with funds this past Black History & Futures Month initiative, allowing us to transform our pitch competition into an in-person experience on March 29th, 2025, at Royale Community Centre.
🏆 Royale Community Centre, has graciously supported us with a reduced-cost venue and additional event support.

This moment is an opportunity to reflect on the impact we’ve made and the work ahead. BCCA is committed to scaling our programs, expanding our reach, and ensuring that youth, families, and businesses continue to thrive.
