BC Community Alliance Hosts SSLP Pitch Competition & Cohort Wrap-Up, Championing the Next Generation of Black Changemakers

Surrey, BC – March 29, 2025 — The BC Community Alliance (BCCA), a leading force in Black youth empowerment across British Columbia, is proud to host the SSLP Pitch Competition & Spring + Fall Cohort Wrap-Up this Saturday, March 29th, from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Royale Community Centre in Surrey.

This milestone event marks the culmination of the Support for Student Learning Program (SSLP), an initiative designed to mentor, inspire, and launch Black youth into the worlds of entrepreneurship, advocacy, and leadership. Over 100 guests, supporters, and leaders are expected to attend, with students from the Spring and Fall cohorts showcasing innovative business and social impact ideas to a panel of distinguished judges and community leaders.

Key Highlights:

  • Special Guest Remarks: MLA George A.G. Anderson (Nanaimo–Lantzville) will open the event, recognizing the achievements of youth participants.

  • Live Student Pitches: Finalists will compete for top prizes in front of a live audience and expert panel.

  • Official Launch of the Safe School Hub: A groundbreaking app co-developed by BCCA that empowers families and students to report incidents of racism and access legal, mental health, and social supports.

  • Guest Speakers & Performances: Featuring poet Marlo Browne, closing performance by Ndidi Cascade, and hosted by creative facilitator Osita David.

The event is proudly sponsored by the NBA Foundation, Vancity Community Foundation, RBC, Mutima Canada, Okoko Cosmétiques, Africopia Market, BBI, TropiCraze, and VanSuya Restaurant & Lounge, whose investments help create tangible pathways for equity, education, and economic opportunity.

“Today’s youth are tomorrow’s innovators,” said Brian Seremba, Co-Founder and Staff Director of BCCA. “This event isn’t just a celebration—it’s a call to action for institutions, families, and allies to keep investing in the brilliance of Black youth.”
