This Black History Month, BC Community Alliance (BCCA) has an incredible lineup of events and programs that celebrate Black excellence, empower youth, and inspire change. Join us for impactful conversations, art, and opportunities to uplift our community. Here’s what’s happening:


1. Student Leadership Event: Empowering Youth for Systemic Change

Kick off Black History Month with our Student Leadership Event, a thought-provoking and inspiring gathering co-designed by the BCCA District Student Council (DSC). This is your chance to hear from dynamic youth leaders and seasoned experts addressing systemic inequities in education.

  • Keynote Speaker: Dacious Richardson, Founder of Rare
  • DSC Co-Directors Panel: Mitchell Obasa, Joshua Bashir, Ayah Has (Moderator), Ifeoluwa Adesanwo

💡 Engaging Breakout Sessions:
Led by the DSC, these sessions will explore actionable solutions for systemic change, using insights from the Anti-Black Racism in BC Schools infographic to ground conversations in data.

2. Digital Art Showcase: A Night of Creativity and Culture

Experience an evening of art, music, and drinks at the Solo Digital Art Show by Mariah Mussassa (@mariahmussassa), hosted by @ryasartwork.

Opening Night:

Time: 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
📍 Where: Slice Vancouver (1636 Venables St, Vancouver, BC)

3. Program Launch: Support for Student Learning Program (SSLP)

Prepare for the future with our Support for Student Learning Program, an 8-week after-school program designed to empower Black youth on their journey to post-secondary education and beyond.

🗓️ Program Dates: February 4th – March 25th, 2025

📚 Program Highlights:

  • Topics Covered: Crypto 101, anti-racism and Black history, financial literacy, product management, career readiness, entrepreneurship, and mental health.
  • Pitch Competition: Students will compete in a product pitch competition, with funding provided through our partner network.
  • Rent a Laptop Program for SSLP Current and Future cohorts to support you on your journey!
